If you’re looking to add a bit of extra visual interest to your photos, or just want to create some cool effects with Photoshop, then you’ll want to learn how to make screentones in the software. Screentones are basically small images that are used as a background for photos or videos. You can use them as part of your photo’s overall design, or simply as an extra layer of visual interest. To create a screentone in Photoshop, first open up the image you want to use it with. Next, select the Background layer and click on the New Layer button (or press Ctrl+N). In the New Layer dialog box that pops up, name your new layer “Screentone” and click OK. Now we’ll start creating our screentone. To do this, first select the Rectangular Marquee tool (M) and draw a rectangle around the area you want to use for your screentone. Make sure that the rectangle is big enough so that it covers most of your image, but not so big that it takes up too much space on your screen. Once you’ve drawn your rectangle, press Enter/Return (PC: Return) to exit out of the Rectangular Marquee tool and go back to Photoshop’s main window. Next, we’ll start creating our screentone texture. To do this, open up Photoshop’s Image Editor (Ctrl+I) and select the Background layer from inside the Layers panel. Now click on the Add Layer Mask button (or press Ctrl+Alt+G) and choose a black color from within Photoshop’s Color Picker panel. This will be our masking layer; anything that we paint over it will be masked out when we save our image later on. Now let’s start painting over our rectangle with some basic white paint pixels using a brush size of about 100 pixels wide and 0 pixels high. ..
