If your PlayStation 4 is starting to give you trouble, it might be time to take it in for a cleaning. Here’s how to do it yourself:

  1. Turn off the PlayStation 4 and unplug it from the power outlet.
  2. Remove the hard drive and any other internal storage devices if they’re attached.
  3. Remove the screws that hold the top cover in place (four on each side).
  4. Lift off the top cover and set it aside.
  5. Locate and remove the fan assembly (it’s a white plastic piece with a blue light on top).
  6. Wash all of the parts in warm water with a mild soap solution, then dry them off completely before reinstalling them in reverse order: first, screw in the fan assembly, then replace the top cover and screws. Be sure to orientate the blue light correctly when re-installing! ..
