Grease traps are one of the most common sources of kitchen mess. If not cleaned out on a regular basis, they can become breeding grounds for bacteria and grease. Here’s how to clean out a grease trap:
- Remove the trap from the sink or dishwasher by unscrewing it from the sink or dishwasher drain.
- Pour a pot of hot water into the sink or dishwasher and turn on the water to full blast.
- Put a large spoonful of baking soda into the trap and pour in enough cold water to cover it completely. Swish around with your spoon to mix up the baking soda and water, then wait 10 minutes before pouring out the mixture.
- Scrub down the inside of the trap with a brush, then pour in enough fresh cold water to cover it completely and wait another 10 minutes before pouring out the mixture again. Repeat this process until all traces of baking soda are gone and there is no foul smell coming from the trap.
- Screw on your grease trap lid and rinse off any remaining cleaning solution with warm water before putting everything back together in your sink or dishwasher ..
