If you’re like most people, you probably don’t think much about how your bearings work. But if you’re a roller skater, it’s important to keep them clean and lubricated so they can run smoothly. Here’s how to do it:

  1. Remove the skates from the skateboard or stand.
  2. Locate the bearings in each wheel. There are usually two of them, one on either side of the axle.
  3. Use a bearing brush or a piece of wire to clean each bearing inside and out. Make sure to get into the crevices and around the edges.
  4. Apply a light layer of grease to each bearing using a grease gun or an old butter knife (or your fingers). Make sure to coat both sides of the bearing evenly. Replace the wheels on your skates and tighten the screws until they’re snug but not too tight. ..
