If your car won’t start, the first thing you should do is check the battery. If it’s good, then check the spark plugs. Dirty or fouled spark plugs can cause a misfire or a dead battery. Here’s how to clean them:

  1. Remove the spark plug cap and unscrew the spark plug.
  2. Pour a small amount of oil into the spark plug hole and screw in the spark plug until it’s tight. Don’t over-tighten!
  3. Hold a piece of paper over the top of the spark plug while you turn it by hand to clean out any dirt, debris, or carbon buildup inside the engine chamber. Be careful not to drop anything down into the engine!
